Sharyn Creighton - "Our Commander -in-Chief"

A Victorian girl by birth but Pilbara girl by heart, Sharyn came west in 1992, but saw sense and settling in Dampier in 2005.  She has lived here ever since with husband Shane and their four children, the youngest two still living at home with them.

Having twin girls and two little boys didn’t slow Sharyn down at all. After arriving in Dampier, she joined the Dampier Family Playgroup committee, becoming Playgroup President in 2007.  She was instrumental in the move to become a membership based group and in establishing a 3-year old school readiness program.

In 2006 Sharyn also joined the Dampier Primary P & C Association, remaining on the committee throughout most of her children’s time at DPS until 2014.  She was the Uniform Shop co-ordinator for two years and then the Treasurer for 2011 and 2012.  During this time she was involved with three School Fetes and numerous other fundraising events, including the School’s 40th anniversary celebrations.  As well as being part of the School’s Support a Reader program, Sharyn was also a parent representative on the School Council for 2013 and 2014.

Starting part time work as the DCA Administrator in 2011, Sharyn has worked tirelessly often going way above and beyond her role. She attends and volunteers her own time at our Markets, Movies, Billy Cart Derby, Art Awards, Citizen Awards and Community Days.  She organises our committee seamlessly, without her outstanding effort most of the DCA’s successful projects would not be sustainable.

In 2018 Sharyn brought the Mother’s Day Classic fundraising event to Dampier, which is now in its second year.  Working with a small committee she organises and runs the entire event.

Just because she is not busy enough, Sharyn joined the Karratha Scout Group last year, initially taking on the Treasurer role but now volunteering as the group’s Membership Officer.

Sharyn was nominated by Katie Maddison.
