Drum Roll Please..... and the winner is

James O’Brien 2018 the Harry Chilvers Youth Encouragement Award Winner

“James, better known as Jimmy, is a true Dampierite, second generation born and bred here in Dampier.  He is passionate about a variety of sports, always giving back to the clubs and passing on all he has learnt from his many years playing in both junior and senior competitions.

He gives his time to assist with coaching and developing junior cricket players.  Attending weekly training sessions Jimmy helps the younger kids develop their skills and teamwork abilities.  He has a great work ethic, consistently attending training sessions and always helping with set up and pack down.

Jimmy is also involved with the West Pilbara Junior Cricket Association, not only as a player and a representative of Dampier at Country Week cricket in Perth, but by volunteering to umpire locally.

Also umpiring senior matches for the Karratha Dampier Teeball Association, Jimmy shows maturity and resilience when challenged by parents and coaches, and makes strong, instant decisions during the games.

Last year he captained the Junior U18 Dampier Sharks Footy team and was also a School Councillor at St Luke’s College.”

This is the second time James has been nominated.  This year he was nominated by Leanne Geikie.
