Apryl O'Brien- "A force of Nature"

With a flash of kimono and a flare for all things Japanese, Apryl burst into the Dampier community in 2017.  She and her husband Glen have worked tirelessly at renovating their home to make it a sanctuary for them and their two boys.

Apryl has been involved with Port Walcott Surf Life Saving Club since its inception in 2016.  She was the Club Member of the Year in 2016-17 and was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2017-18.

Following the first season she became the head age group Manager after being an assistant in the previous season. Apryl has been the Director of Juniors for the past two seasons and has been on the Board of Directors for the last three.  As part of her role she has been the person who sets the lesson plans for nippers every single week, whilst ensuring the other instructors know what is happening.

Apryl mentors new age group managers so they are comfortable delivering the sessions.  She always volunteers to help at extra activities for the Club including fundraising, fun days, Covechella, and sleepover camps.  She is the chief fun maker and motivator!

Apryl has been pivotal in introducing Surf Life Saving to the Dampier community.  Prior to her arrival there were no Dampier families involved with Surf Life Saving.  The numbers have grown steadily over the past two years with Apryl actively recruiting and telling community members about SLS and its many benefits.

Port Walcott Surf Life Saving Club wouldn’t be anywhere near as efficient, enjoyable or popular without her.  She is indispensable.
